From the General Manager – Training Packages
The start of the New Year brings many challenges and a great deal of opportunity to continue to provide the transport and logistics workforce with the skills and knowledge they need to be efficient, productive and safe. This is only achievable with the support of you, our stakeholders, and I’d like to thank all of you for your support throughout 2014 and into 2015. The Training Package team here at TLISC is committed to working with you to achieve the high quality outcomes that are required across all Transport and Logistics sectors. I’d also like to thank every member of the Training Package team for their dedication and hard work during the past year and I know that they are all prepared for the year ahead. As I said above, with challenge comes great opportunity.
The transition and review of all of our qualifications and units of competency is now well advanced, with a number committee meetings already scheduled for 2015. As always, we invite expressions of interest from our stakeholders who wish to be involved in any of our development and review projects. Information on Training Package projects can be found through the Training Packages section of our website here and then selecting the relevant sector.
During the first half of 2015 we will be running RTO Workshops across Australia. These workshops will be open to all training providers and will focus on the new Standards for Training Packages, provide updates about each of the Training Packages TLISC is responsible for, and inform about development and review processes planned across 2015. This will also be an opportunity for RTOs to review our newly developed resources for Supply Chain and Logistics Management before they are released more broadly. Further information on dates and venues will be available soon through our website, newsletter and email alerts.
I would like to take this opportunity to provide an overview of the outcomes that were achieved by TLISC and our industry and RTO partners in the last 12 months. 2014 was a significant year for the TLISC Training Package team with a number of initiatives implemented to enable us to more effectively engage with stakeholders now and into the future. These engagement initiatives support all of our continuous improvement activities, including the transition of the Aviation, Maritime and Transport & Logistics Training Packages to the Standards for Training Packages with over 100 qualifications and more than 1100 units of competency requiring review. In 2014 the Training Package team facilitated 48 meetings across all areas of responsibility with a broad range of industry stakeholders to develop and review Training Package products.
The Training Package section of the TLISC website has been improved to streamline access to more information. Our Training Package Project pages now contain additional detailed information on each project with regular progress updates and draft materials which can be downloaded for review and feedback by all stakeholders. The project pages support TLISC’s open and transparent approach to Training Package development and review by giving all stakeholders the opportunity to engage and provide feedback throughout the process.
We’ve made it easy for stakeholders to receive alerts when Training Package projects are updated through our Register Your Interest feature which can found on each our Training Package webpages. Feedback on any of our Training Package products can also be provided through our Training Package Feedback section. Our monthly newsletter has regular Training Package updates from each of our Aviation, Maritime, Rail and Road Transport & Logistics specialists. You can subscribe to our Newsletter through the ‘Subscribe’ button on any of our website pages.
During 2014 each of the sectoral Advisory Committees for Aviation, Maritime, Rail and Road Transport & Logistics held their biannual meetings. These industry representative committees perform an important function by providing intelligence and advice on workforce training needs, trends and areas of prioritisation for Training Package development.
Two new Advisory Committees were established in 2014 for Registered Training Organisations and for TAFE’s. These committees provide input and advice on Training Package implementation, feedback on resources to support Training Package implementation and intelligence on issues and opportunities to improve the quality of training outcomes. All of our Advisory Committees will continue to meet biannually in 2015.
As we move into an extremely busy 2015, the above initiatives will further enable the TLISC Training Package team to work closely with our stakeholders to provide effective Training Package products that meet the needs of industry.
I look forward to seeing and working with you throughout the coming year. Feel free to contact me should have any questions or require further information.
