Rail Training Package Update

The Rail Steering Committee met on 18 – 19 February to continue their work transitioning the rail qualifications, units of competency and Skill Sets to the Standards for Training Packages.   The Rail Steering Committee continues to address several issues identified through TLISC’s continuous Improvement Plan. These include:

  • Reviewing terminology to ensure consistency with rail legislation
  • Refining units of competency from TLI10 Training Package to remove obstacles relating to changing technology to better reflect current and future job roles
  • Ensuring rail simulator operators/trainers have a Skill Set to debrief simulator participants after each session

I would like to thank all the Steering Committee members who have generously contributed to the consultation process; not only for their time, but also their guidance and advice which has ensured that the vocational outcomes of the rail training products are of a high standard.   I would also like to thank the rail transport operators for supporting their key staff member’s participation in these meetings.

The rail components of the transition to the Standards for Training Packages are due to be completed by the end of 2015, incorporating work undertaken to address continuous improvement issues identified by stakeholders.

For further information on any of the above projects can be found on the rail page of the TLISC website.

If you have any further queries or would like to participate in the consultation process, please contact Ron Horne, Senior Training Package Specialist – Rail  on 03 9604 7232 or   ron.horne@tlisc.org.au
