Can you tell us how you ended up in your current role?
Basically I heard that the position of truck washer with me company was available so  I decided to apply as I was searching for a position in the trucking business and saw this as a foot in the door.

How long have you been in your current role?
I’ve only been working with the company for about four months

What does your job involve?
I’m on call to drive a side loader garbage/ recycling truck for domestic waste so I pick up all the bins on the side of the road. If I don’t get called in I wash the trucks once they are all done for the day.

What role has training and up-skilling played in you getting your current job?
It always plays a big role. I had to train to get my license and also I had to have training to be able to drive a side loader truck.

What do you love about your job?
I love everything about my job. I mostly love being around the trucks as they are my passion and driving them just makes me feel alive.

What attributes do you think best suit this type of work?
You have to be open-minded and be able to get along with guys because although we are getting more girls in the industry it is still a male dominated industry. It’s also best if you’re able to learn fast because then you will excel at it.

What advice would you give someone looking to work in the industry?
Just keep trying. Because just because one manager says no or says they need experience doesn’t mean that all of them will.

Where do you see yourself in five years time?
I’d love to still be doing this but with my skills more advanced in other types of trucks as in front lifter and rear lifter.
