TLISC Talking Safety

TLISC was pleased to make a presentation at the Improving Heavy Vehicle Road Safety Summit hosted by Australian Road Transport Suppliers Association (ARTSA) in Melbourne on 16 and 17 April. More than 150 industry professionals attended the summit to listen to presentations covering everything safety-related; from equipment and technology to policy and people matters.

Our presentation – “Establishing a common purpose and range of solutions” focussed on a number of themes including organisational culture and the link to training, and the increasing diversity in supply chains and the ongoing need for skills development to meet the associated growth in industry’s use of technology.

Key findings from TLISC’s 2015 Environmental Scan were discussed, in particular that our research revealed employers continue to recognise improved occupational health and safety outcomes as a significant post-training productivity improvement.

Attendees were also advised of the availability of free support resources on the TLISC website and contemporary industry data including industry skill needs and challenges reported by employers.

On the topic of safety, a number of nominations for the TLISC Awards for Excellence this year demonstrated improved safety performance as a result of broader training strategies. Such outcomes highlight a range of successful approaches based on the needs of different businesses in the industry. More information about these initiatives can be found here.
