Transport & Logistics Training Package Update

The review of the Transport and Logistics training package is progressing well, with a number of positive changes resulting from the process of transitioning to the new standards.

The Driving Instruction steering committee continues to review the 3 qualifications and associated units of competency, to ensure they meet the vocational needs of Driving Instructors. The mix of units in each qualification is being given careful consideration and there is agreement that a new unit to ‘teach novice drivers’ needs to be developed to ensure the qualification is fit for purpose.  Changes will be posted on the Transport and Logistics Training Package Updates web page next month.

The review of the Driving Operations qualifications, associated units of competency and Skill Sets is now almost complete.  Details of each area of this project are currently available for review on the Transport and Logistics Training Package updates web page. Stakeholders can also review any draft materials available and provide feedback. Latest project updates include:

  • The Taxi industry has provided feedback on the 8 units relevant to their industry, which are in the Certificate II Driving Operations. An update on this review process was presented at the latest ATIA conference, held in April.
  • The Dangerous Goods (DG) licence Technical Advisory Group (TAG) have finalised a draft of the unit “TLILIC3013A Preparation to transport dangerous goods by road” and it is now available for review. It will also be presented to the regulators of the transport of DG at the Brisbane CAP47 conference later in the month.

The transition of the 5 Materiel and Deployment Logistics qualifications is nearing completion. Draft materials have been available in the projects area of the TLISC website for 21 days and any feedback will be considered before final stakeholder sign off.

The transition of the International Freight Forwarding and Customs Broking qualifications is commencing this month, with the establishment of a steering committee to oversee this process.

The 6 qualifications and associated units of competency that are in the final stages of preparation for submission for endorsement include:

  • TLI10115   Certificate I in Transport and Logistics (Pathways)
  • TLI11215   Certificate I in Warehousing Operations
  • TLI11315   Certificate I in Logistics
  • TLI21815   Certificate II in Logistics
  • TLI50415   Diploma of Logistics
  • TLI41715  Certificate IV Stevedoring

It is anticipated that they will be submitted for endorsement in July 2015

A number of meetings are being held this month to progress work in the T & L training package space. Please refer to the website for further details, they include:
