Transport Manager

Transport Managers run and coordinate the operations of a transport or logistics business.

The Transport Manager’s role is becoming increasingly specialised and sophisticated due to the increase in technology. Transport Managers require a thorough knowledge and understanding of the transport industry as a whole, which includes the six sectors; Road Transport, Logistics & Warehousing, Maritime, Rail, Aviation and Ports.

Transport Managers may perform the following tasks:

  • Organise the purchase and maintenance of transport vehicles, equipment and fuel
  • Liaise with clients and customers to work out their requirements
  • Develop and put into place transportation schedules and take delivery of orders and bookings
  • Introduce and maintain quality control procedures
  • Organise and arrange promotional campaigns for the transportation of goods
  • Maintain business records and prepare operational statements and reports
  •  Ensure full compliance with occupational health and safety regulations

Responsibilities include:

  • Keep up to date with the requirements and changes for incoming and outgoing shipments
  • Prepare export documentation on behalf of importers and exporters regarding
    restrictions, duty terms and taxes
  • Keep accurate freight records and handle enquiries.

Entry Qualifications

Training qualification:

  • Certificate IV in Logistics
  • Certificate IV in Warehousing
  • Diploma of Logistics (depending on organisation size and role responsibility)

$40,500 – $113,500 (Median $54,700)*.
