Australian Waters Qualification (AWQ)

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) are currently consulting on a proposal to include the Australian Waters Qualification (AWQ) in the Maritime Radio Class Licence as a mandated requirement for boaters using VHF marine radio in Australian Territorial Waters.

To support this proposal TLISC in consultation with ACMA and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) have developed a Skill Set which includes MARC019 Transmit and receive information by marine VHF radio within Australian Territorial Waters. MARC019 specifically addresses ACMA’s proposed mandated requirement for VHF marine radio users operating within Australian territorial waters.

Once the approval to include the AWQ in the Class Licence is obtained ACMA will be circulating advice to all boaters on where they can obtain their AWQ.  By including MARC019 on your scope of registration now, ACMA will be able to direct enquiries in your direction.

For further information about the AWQ contact Mick Owens on: mick.owens@acma.gov.au and for MARC019 contact Eddie Hardman on: eddie.hardman@tlisc.org.au or by phoning 03 9604 7234.
