From the CEO
On 25 June I attended the National Skills Summit in Canberra where The Hon Ian Macfarlane MP, Minister for Industry delivered the keynote address to VET decision makers and influencers. The event was designed to give attendees insight into the reforms which will shape the VET sector in the years ahead. The Minister highlighted important future issues including global competition and the need for reform. The entire speech is available here.
One of TLISC’s key areas of focus for 2014/15 is how we can support RTOs to partner with Industry to build the T&L workforce of the future. We have new Training Package support resources under development for use by RTOs and Industry and we are in the process of planning a series of national RTO Professional Development workshops.
The recently formed RTO Advisory Committee met this month. It has representatives from training organisations delivering each of TLISC’s Training Packages, both privately and through TAFEs. Its role is to provide input and advice on Training Package implementation; feedback on resources to support Training Package implementation; and intelligence on issues and opportunities to improve quality of training outcomes.
TLISC was pleased to sponsor the dinner at the recent NCVER ‘No Frills’ Conference. I was fortunate enough to speak to delegates attending the dinner about TLISC’s ongoing support of NCVER and their work to improve and enhance the national data collection.
This year TLISC has partnered with the International Specialist Skills Institute to provide two Fellowships to Australian’s employed in the Transport and Logistics Industry. By being involved with this initiative, TLISC is supporting valuable research into T&L priorities. More information about the Fellowships is available here.
Finally, welcome to Dan Minton who joins TLISC as Senior Training Package Specialist – Aviation.
