Learning About Logistics
Business on the Move is a business education board game developed by teachers in the United Kingdom to teach young people, and adults, the basics about running a business. Based on logistics, the game can be played at seven different levels with increasing complexity. While mainly intended as a teaching resource in secondary schools, the game is also being used by industry for inducting new employees and training employees about what their organisation does.
The UK version of the game was launched in London on 27 June with the help of 50 organisations that have supported the game as sponsors including UK Warehousing Association, GB Railfreight, Tesco, Marks & Spencer, Unilever, Jaguar Land Rover, DHL, Chep (Brambles), the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport and DP World London Gateway.
An Australian version of the game is now being considered with students in Year 9 and 10 at Ocean View College in Adelaide playing the game as a pilot linked to two recently introduced subjects: Logi Biz and Logistical Strategies.
Although some of the Australian students recognised a number of the UK business names on the game board, many commented they would like to have Australian business names on the game so they have a better idea of the link between the container contents and the customer order deliveries as they play the game.
