Aviation Update

This month has seen the commencement of the final two AVI08 Continuous Improvement Plan projects for 2014/15. Although the year is flying by, the Commercial Pilot Project Steering Committee has formed and discussed a range of options for the future licence and qualification framework for Pilots, Flight Instructors and Chief Pilots. Over the next few months, these qualifications will be aligned to the requirements of CASR Pt 61 Flight Crew Licencing, and drafted for inclusion into the new AVI Aviation Training Package in early 2015.

Industry representatives have recently formed as the Ground Operations Project Steering Committee, and provided TLISC valuable feedback to the core and elective structures of a wide range of customer service, ramp operations, baggage handler, and aerodrome and flight operations dispatcher competencies. Australian aviation operators and training organisations can expect to see some new and significant changes to most qualifications over the coming months, with opportunities for comment and review on qualification models to be available from early next year.

The Aviation Safety Skills project has worked towards building a comprehensive competency framework for use across ground and flight operations qualifications. It is anticipated that topical areas including risk management, fatigue risk management, threat and error management and human factors at the operator and supervisor/manager level will be available for inclusion into individual qualifications as either core or electives. The project has also drafted two qualifications that will be potentially available as bridging pathways between qualification levels or stand-alone Skill Sets, pending industry review and endorsement early next year. Look for information before the end of this year on the Aviation Safety Skills project page.
