Transport & Logistics Training Package Update
Safety is the key point when it comes to training in the Transport and Logistics Industry. There has been a lot of movement lately in the Road Transport sector around greater safety measures being introduced in areas such as chain of responsibility, fatigue management, load restraint and transporting of Dangerous Goods.
To this end, TLISC have continued to work on a number of improvements to the competency standards, in consultation with industry personnel, in the Road Transport sector. Two meetings were held in October to discuss the Driving Operations and Driving Instruction qualifications. Both meetings were well attended and provided robust discussion and outcomes; some of which are as follows:
- 5 new skills sets have been developed to cover owner drivers, Dangerous Goods tanker drivers and road transport drivers(which includes compliance factors)
- Packaging rules have been reworked for greater clarification for the 3 Driving Operations qualifications, along with inclusion of the Chain of Responsibility units in the core and electives
- TLISC has been working with Australia’s transport of dangerous goods Competent Authorities Panel (CAP) to review the unit of competency: TLILIC3013A – Preparation to Transport Dangerous Goods by Road. A meeting is being held this week with CAP members and select RTO’s to further progress this review. I will let you know how this goes in the next newsletter.
- The 3 Driving Instruction qualifications will go through the process to align them to the new Training Package templates
Following these meetings, the revised units of competency and qualifications will be placed on the website for review and feedback.
The Warehousing and Logistics qualifications and units of competency that were on the website for comment have now been removed. All feedback will be compiled and presented to the W & L Steering committee for comment and action.
