Transport & Logistics Training Package Update

TLISC continues to motor on, working with our industry stakeholders to transition to the TLI Transport & Logistics training package. What has been achieved in 2014 is immense and this is due to the dedication and commitment of our stakeholders to ensure the training package is fit for purpose and continues to meet industry needs. There has been a great deal of progress in improvements to the Driving Operations qualifications, High Risk Work licencing units, Chain of Responsibility units and the Dangerous Goods Transportation licencing units, but to name a few.

Work is currently underway in the following:

  • Working with Safe Work Australia (SWA) to review High Risk Work licencing units. This review has been proceeding well, with general agreement form SWA on the model and content that TLISC has presented.
  • Working with the Dangerous Goods (DG) licence Technical Advisory Group (TAG) on the unit “TLILIC3013A Preparation to transport dangerous goods by road”. The outcome of this meeting resulted in greater clarity of the job role, which enabled us to further refine the elements and performance criteria.  This group will now fine tune the skills and knowledge required to demonstrate competency.
  • The Driving Operations Steering committee is close to finalising the review of the 3 Driving Operations qualifications, which includes the development of 5 new skills sets and review of the 3 DG tanker units to incorporate ‘rollover awareness’.
  • The Driving Instruction Steering committee has commenced work on the review of the 3 Driving Instruction qualifications.
  • A steering committee was established and work has commenced on the review of the 5 Materiel and Deployment Logistics qualifications.
  • The W & L Steering committee met this month to finalise the process to review and transition the Warehousing and Logistics qualifications. This process has now been signed off by the committee and we will be preparing the qualifications and associated units of competency for endorsement.

With all of the projects that are currently underway, we’ve been receiving a significant amount feedback from stakeholders, which is important to ensure all views are considered.

So in 2015, the intensive work of aligning the TLI training package to the new standards will continue, along with the continuance of all the projects listed above. The following meetings will be organised for the first 3 months of 2015, to continue with the work from 2014. They include:

  • Driving Operations Steering committee
  • DG licence TAG to review the for the DG licence unit
  • Driving Instruction Steering committee
  • Materiel and Deployment Logistics Steering committee

We will also be establishing Steering Committees to oversee the transition of the qualifications and associated units of competency for:

  • International Freight Forwarding
  • Customs Broking
  • Bus and Coach Operations
  • Waste Driving
  • Traffic Operations
  • Furniture Removal

It has been a busy year, full of robust discussions and great achievements, in the ongoing development and improvement of training package standards. So a huge thank you to those of you in the Transport and Logistics industry; whether you are working in the industry, training the industry personnel or regulating the industry, thank you for caring enough to spend your time making a difference. Stay safe wherever you are over the festive season and we look forward to working with you all again in 2015.
