COMMERCIAL PILOT

TLISC is reviewing existing units of competency and qualifications aligned to Commercial Pilot roles, for inclusion in the new AVI Aviation Training Package. The project will commence in September 2014 and is expected to be completed by mid 2015.

Project Overview
TLISC is reviewing 3 existing Commercial Pilot (Aeroplane) qualifications for inclusion in the new AVI Aviation Training Package;
  • AVI40108 – Certificate IV in Aviation (Commercial Pilot Aeroplane Licence)
  • AVI50408 – Diploma of Aviation (Instrument Flight Operations)
  • AVI60110 – Advanced Diploma of Aviation (Flight Instruction)

The Commercial Pilot Project will review the qualifications to ensure they are fit for purpose under VET, CASA and Defence regulatory requirements. The main focus of the project will be alignment of terminology and assessment requirements with CASR Pt 61 Flight Crew Licencing. The project is expected to commence September 2014 and be completed by mid 2015.

The AVI Aviation Training Package Release 2.0 is the second release of the transitioned training package, and contains 20 qualifications, 42 skill sets, and 204 units of competency.

The Commercial Pilot PSC has met on several occasions since the project commenced in October 2014.19 February 2015 – The Commercial Pilot and Rotary Wing PSC’s met through teleconference / web conference to endorse the proposed new Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence – Aeroplane), Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence – Helicopter) and Diploma of Aviation (Command Instrument Rating ) structures. All qualifications were discussed in detail, with Core and Elective options discussed and aligned where possible across the CPL Aeroplane and Helicopter environment.The PSC sought to ensure that there would be no skills gap between the requirements of the CASA Manual of Standards for Flight Crew Licencing and the next AVI Aviation Training Package.

The PSC met through teleconference to discuss and validate project developments.

  1. PSC were updated on the Aviation Safety project outcomes in the areas of risk management, fatigue risk management, threat and error management and human factors units/skill sets. This work was endorsed for inclusion into the next CPL qualification.
  2. Reviewed the mapping of AVI-CASA Manual of Standards competencies for qualification/licence purposes.
  3. PSC endorsed the upgrading of the Cert IV to a Diploma (AQF5) level qualification, and outlined a range of electives suitable for inclusion into the new qualification.

The PSC formed and met via teleconference to discuss project outlines, key milestones and objectives. The PSC discussed the recent changes to Flight Crew Licensing implemented by CASA, and considered ways to align the next AVI Aviation Training Package with the requirements of the Pt 61 Manual of Standards.
