DRIVING INSTRUCTION

TLISC has commenced the alignment of the Driving Instruction units of competency and qualifications to the Standard for Training Package.

Project Overview
TLISC has commenced the Driving instruction alignment of qualifications and relevant units of competency in the TLI Transport & Logistics Training Package, to the Standards for Training Packages. The project will look at the three qualifications and their related units of competency. The qualifications are listed below:
  • TLI41210 Certificate IV in Transport & Logistics (Road Transport – Car Driving instruction)
  • TLI41310 Certificate IV in Transport & Logistics (Road Transport – Heavy vehicle Driving instruction)
  • TLI41410 Certificate IV in Transport & Logistics (Road Transport – Motor cycle Driving instruction)

The project is expected to be completed in mid-2015.

Project Update
20th November 2015

Transport & Logistics Training Package Release 2.0 was submitted to the Dept. Education and Training on 20th November 2015. This Release contains 3 Driving Instruction qualifications, 1 Skill Sets and 9 units of competency (3 of which are new units).

10 November 2015
Transport & Logistics Training Package Release 2.0 draft training package components are now available for viewing, prior to being submitted to the Dept. Education and Training for endorsement.This Release contains 3 Driving Instruction qualifications, 1 Skill Sets and 9 units of competency (3 of which are new units).

15th September 2015
The Driving Instruction steering committee has spend considerable time reviewing the 3 Driving Instruction Qualifications, 1 skill set and the 6 associated units of competency. 18th June 2015
The Driving Instruction steering committee met for the 5th time on 14th May in Sydney to confirm and sign off on the mix of units in the 3 qualifications, review the Driving instruction skill set and conduct a detailed review of the 6 driving/riding instruction units of competency.

29th May 2015
A special workshop was held to discuss the Heavy Vehicle qualification and the potential inclusion of HV industry drive units, packaging rules to accommodate this inclusion and other associated units for consideration.

14th May 2015
The Driving Instruction steering committee met for the 4th time on 14th May in Melbourne to review the 3 qualifications and associated units of competency. The goal of this meeting was to: Finalise the 3 qualifications to ensure we have the right mix of units to meet the vocational outcome/job role requirements

At this meeting, members discussed the following:

  • the mix of units needed to cover the skills and knowledge required by a driving/riding Instructor
  • agreement to 8 common units to be included in all 3 qualifications were as follows:
  • BSBRKG304A Maintain business records
  • TAEDEL301 Provide work skill instruction
  • TAEDES401Design and develop learning programs
  • TLIG2007 Work in a socially diverse environment
  • TLII1002 Apply customer service skills
  • TLIL2060 Complete induction to the transport industry
  • TLIL4009 Manage personal work priorities & PD
  • TLIF1001 Follow WHS/OHS procedures
  • the inclusion of ‘industry drive’ units
  • agreement on the Qualification model
  • new unit for teaching basic driving/riding skills

17th March 2015
The Driving Instruction steering committee met for the 3rd time on 17th March in Sydney to review the 3 qualifications and associated units of competency. The goal of this meeting was to: Ensure the 3 qualifications have the right mix of units to meet the vocational outcome/job role requirements.

At this meeting, members discussed the following:

  • the current role of the driving/riding instructor and the list of tasks needed to meet the vocational outcome/job role requirements
  • the current mix of units in each qualification
  • the 6 driving/riding instruction related units of competency
  • proposed units to be removed and new units for consideration
  • development of a new unit for teaching basic driving/riding skills

The committee were then tasked with reviewing all information from this meeting, in preparation for our next meeting in May.

18 February 2015
On the 4th of February 2015 the Driving Instruction Steering Committee met for the second time to review the feedback received from stakeholders, on the 3 Driving Instruction qualifications and associated units of competency.Valuable feedback was received and as a result of this, it was decided to conduct a further review of the 3 qualifications and the ‘drive’ units.To view the changes recommended so far to the qualifications, please click on the links below.
