Transport and Logistics Industry Skills Council Awards for Excellence

The leaders in Australia’s transport and logistics industry have been honoured at the annual Transport and Logistics Industry Skills Council (TLISC) Awards for Excellence in Melbourne.

The 2015 Awards for Excellence recognise the achievement of outstanding organisations and individuals in the areas of training and workforce development across the transport and logistics sector.

The CEO of TLISC, Mr Robert Adams, said the awards showcase both the exceptional talent and the enormous contribution that the industry makes to the national economy.

In every category of the awards, we have individuals and organisations that have shown remarkable innovation, enterprise and determination, which makes all of us extremely proud,” he said.

The awards for Innovation & Excellence in Workforce Development recognise enterprises that have successfully implemented whole of business solutions to upskill and train staff through the use of TLISC Training Packages. The awards were made in six categories:

The award for Excellence in Industry Promotion went to the Queensland Department of Education and Training for its GenR8 school-to-work initiative.

The Chairman’s Award was jointly presented to two recipients:

  • The Australian Maritime College at the University of Tasmania for its training program tailored to Indigenous communities in the Torres Strait; and
  • TAFE Western NSW for its program of Road Transport training for inmates in corrective service institutions in central western NSW.

Trainee of the Year was awarded to Billie-Jean Raahauge (Maritime), a highly skilled and promising marine operator employed on the Bateman’s Bay (NSW) ferry ‘Escapade’.

The awards were presented at a gala dinner before a 150-strong audience, comprising industry leaders, training organisations, government representatives and other stakeholders.

TLISC Chairman, Mr Laurie D’Apice, who presented the Chairman’s Award, noted the extraordinary range of skills being delivered across a diverse range of sectors and communities.

I would like to congratulate all the finalists and award recipients for the outstanding contribution they have made to a robust and innovative transport and logistics industry across Australia,” he said.

The panel of judges acknowledged the high standard of entries by also bestowing several Highly Commended certificates.
