Australian Industry Standards

From 31 December 2022, Australian Industry Standards will cease to be a Skills Service Organisation (SSO) and will transition to the new Jobs and Skills Council arrangements. We will continue to support the transport, logistics, aviation, maritime, rail, space and omnichannel distribution sectors.

Industry Reference Committees

Industry Reference Committees (IRCs) comprise industry leaders and experts and act as a conduit between the industry sector and the Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC).

IRCs are the formal point through which industry requirements for skills are considered and defined in Training Packages. They drive the Training Package development process and ensure that skills standards and qualifications meet the needs of employers, are contemporary and future focused.

State Training Authorities

State Training Authorities (STAs) have an important role in administering Vocational Education and Training (VET), allocating funds, registering training organisations and accrediting courses within each state and territory. STAs also contribute to the Training Package development process via the work of AIS as a Skills Service Organisation (SSO).

Registered Training Organisations

Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) are the front line of the VET system. Employers rely on RTOs to provide essential skills and knowledge to both new entrants and existing workers. High-quality training and assessment means students are well equipped for employment or further study; their qualification is seen as valuable when they enter the job market; and they are judged by employers as holding the skills and competencies specified in their qualification.

Australian Vocational Education and Training

The Australian Vocational Education and Training (VET) system aims to provide individuals with work-ready skills for the labour market – skills that businesses and industries need in order to be highly productive and internationally competitive.

Supporting the national VET system, Training Packages specify the skills and knowledge required to perform effectively in the workplace through units of competency. Training Packages also describe how these units can be packaged into nationally recognised qualifications aligned to the Australian Qualifications Framework and industry recognised Skill Sets.

Industry Outlooks

Industry Outlooks identify the priority skill needs of industry following a research and stakeholder consultation process conducted by AIS on behalf of the IRC. The Industry Outlook provides an overview of industry trends, new and emerging skills needs as well as the IRC’s proposed Training Package development to address these workforce needs.

Each Industry Outlook provides a snapshot of a continually evolving story for the sector that is intended to alert and inform a wide audience and enhance the industry’s capacity to act.

AIS Global GEDSI Case Study

AIS Global is working closely with Nguyen Huu Canh College in Vietnam to develop its inaugural Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) strategy. This highlights the importance of fostering an inclusive and accessible learning environment where diversity is celebrated.

The strategy outlines four goals focused on encouraging participation of GEDSI populations in vocational training and teaching; building partnerships with organisations that can support the recruitment and work placement of students; improving learning and teaching for GEDSI groups; and attracting and retaining the best diverse talent as students and staff.
